Humans of New York has graced our lives for over seven years now. What originally started as a photography project has now blossomed into a global brand. It’s a blog that features photos and short biographies of everyday people in NYC. Readers enjoy these stories as it gives them an intimate portrait of everyday people.
Brand Stanton is the creator and has interviewed more then 1,200 New Yorkers. His blogs success has landed him two New York Times best-selling books and a huge online social media presence. Stanton’s blog has 18 million followers and his Instagram profile has over 7 million.
Facebook has ordered a twelve part original document series based on the blog. It will debut on Facebook’s new platform called ‘Watch’. Watch is currently rolling out and features a mix of short-form content. The show will comprise part of Facebook’s debut slate of series, as it moves into original programming for the first time.
Stanton mentions, “Facebook has had a huge role in the creation of Humans of New York.” Brand was always been attracted to the global reach of Facebook since two-thirds of his audience is international. Stanton will be working closely with Julie Goldman, who is an Oscar nominated document maker. The show will be produced through her production house Motto Pictures.
What better way to launch a series then through a global online digital platform. Episodes of Humans of New York will launch weekly as of next week and will be available to all Facebook users. So if you haven’t already signed up then get moving!
