MIPTV 2017 has come and gone and MIPCOM is slowly creeping up on us, but that still doesn’t mean we can’t discuss the digital trends that occurred in Cannes. MIPTV is the global marketplace for TV and digital content for all genres. It’s where top creatives launch and sell new TV shows, build professional partnerships and network with other industry experts.
As a digital agency and a regular attendee of MIP each year, we have an opportunity to educate and inform our readers about a product or service in any digital environment.
Virtual reality (VR) involves experiencing a 3D world through a lens, giving you the feeling that you are really there. It’s the forefront of new technology in the digital world, which means interaction and design are being used as a tool to create immersive experiences.
MIPTV had a large focus on VR this year, with numerous professionals discussing to groups of creatives the pros, cons and opportunities something like VR holds for creators and developers. Attendees got to witness these discussions and how this craft can add value to their business.
VR production companies were able to share their products, manufactures could talk about the trials and tribulations and experts discussed industry challenges. It’s all about incorporating this new medium into existing markets such as the TV industry. It will be big, but it’s just a matter of when?
Dominic Collins, General Manager of Jaunt VR stated, “I predict things will have moved further along by MIPCOM, and even more by next year’s MIPTV, where we’ll see ramped-up VR distribution and audiences justifying bigger budgets being spent on quality VR storytelling.”
We can’t wait to see what MIPCOM brings and what the future holds for VR.
