You’ve obviously gathered by now that Mindcorp have a slight obsession with anything AR/VR related? Now that we’re on the same page, we’ve finally found something that may outshine Pokemon Go. Can anyone say Super Mario Kart? No, we’re not talking about the game boy edition, we’re talking about the augmented reality life sized version!
AR is when digital information is overlaid on top of the real world, which is then viewed through a screen or lens. Abhishek Singh (the creator) who lives in NYC and is studying Interactive Telecommunications at New York University and has recreated the iconic first level of Super Mario Bros.
The demo is built in Unity3D for the Microsoft Hololens headset. The YouTube video displayed was recorded entirely through the hololens with no post production added into it. Talk about a game changer! If you ever wanted to stomp on those little brown monsters, collect coins, jump over the green tubes and wack your head on the question marker blocks then this may be your chance.
“As soon as I began working with the Hololens, this was my first project with it. I knew I wanted to use it in a large outdoor setting, even though they explicitly say it is meant to be used indoors. So I find these possibilities to be the most fun,” says Singh.
There is no distribution rights for this game, but Singh is willing to keep pushing and developing the game more, so soon enough we can all be walking around London with our Mario T-Shirts on, fighting all the bad guys. It would be a better way of bumping into people, rather then getting your shoulder smacked by someone who has their head in their phone.
