A century later Kodansha rebrands for the first time

A century later Kodansha rebrands for the first time

The new identity and logo is Kodansha’s first brand update in 112 years, and is themed around a fresh statement of purpose: inspire impossible stories.

The Tokyo-based publisher Kodansha owns many literary and manga magazines and first published the much-loved manga series Akira in the early 1980s. It also released some of Haruki Murakami’s earliest novels, as well as Attack on Titan – 100 million copies of which have been issued.

Gretel, a New York agency, has overhauled the company’s visual identity that’s suggestive of an art gallery or cultural institution in the branding. The new logo features intersecting lines in a square – a nod to the layout of comic book pages and represents “Kodansha’s position at the crossroad of all cultures, where many ideas, voices and stories intersect”.

Eco-sustainable 3D printed house

Eco-sustainable 3D printed house

Tecla based in Ravenna is a 645-square-foot structure whose shell is made entirely of local clay, is one of the world’s first 3D-printed homes. The name—inspired by Italian writer Italo Calvino’s fictional city of Thekla—evokes ancient architecture’s timelessness with an undeniable 21st-century edge.

It may not be considered a mansion, but 3D-printing company WASP’s revolutionary technology was able to build the unique dwelling, which boasts a bedroom, living area, and bathroom, in just 200 hours. The printer may have been doing the heavy lifting, but the skilled architects were the brains of the operation, carefully curating every detail of the space. From the pleated exterior bulbs to the sturdy and sustainable material, the minimalist home is completely self-supporting, eliminating the need for an intricate framework.

Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics logo revealed

The 2026 Winter Olympics logo features an angular version of a two and six, drawn in one constant moment, “influenced by the themes of sport, solidarity and sustainability”.

This marks the first time that an Olympics logo has been decided by the public and rightly so, given the amount of interest it tends to generate.

Named Logo Futura, the winner of the online vote was opened to the public on March 6 on milanocortina2026.org – capturing 871,000 votes from 169 countries and winning 74% of the overall vote. With the engagement of the public on this important decision making, it hits home that “Milano Cortina 2026’s strategy for a people-centric Games builds on the belief that we are stronger together”.
