Kobe Bryant iconography laureus world sports awards

The legend Kobe "Black Mamba" Bryant

The Legend Kobe “Black Mamba” Bryant

It was as we were putting the finishing touches to the Laureus World Sports Awards red carpet branding that the sad news arrived of Kobe Bryant and his daughter’s death.

Laureus thought it would be fitting for us to create a memorial wall in which all of the worlds sports stars attending the event could sign and leave their messages for the global superstar! This was our process in creating it and the final piece at the awards.

The One With The Re-Runs

The One With The Re-Runs

Get the assorted biscuits on a tray, put the kettle on, your friends will be here soon… oh hang on your f.r.i.e.n.d.s will be here soon. While we may not be allowed to invite people over for a cuppa there are still a few familiar faces we will be letting into our households.

It appears that in these unprecedented times people are turning to some creature comforts with what some call ‘prestige TV’. This comes in the way of Friends, Frasier, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory and The Office to name just a few. Friends was the second-most-streamed show this week, it’s no wonder Netflix forked out almost £85m to get it on the platform for 2019. Perhaps it’s the importance of seeing these longtale programmes and seeing these recognisable faces which some may have grown up with watching and ‘getting to know’ them that gives us the sense of familiarity, warmth and dare we say it, normality.

While there are some fantastic dramas being created, these do not give a person a sense of nostalgia and comfort that maybe Chandler Bing or Sheldon Cooper can offer, maybe you want to have a pint at the bar with NORM! to try and feel NORMal. Either way there is a character for everyone and we all have our favourites, who will you be binge watching the next few months? The Office because you miss going to work, Modern Family because you miss yours, or Friends because, well, you get the gist.

Could there BE anything more comforting.

Nostalgia TV

Nostalgia TV

In a time of uncertainty, many people feel they cannot trust the future and hold a fondness for the past.

At Mindcorp, we are all for nostalgia. In fact we’ve been creating some pieces with a nostalgic theme. Look out for them in the coming days and weeks.

In the meantime, just feast your eyes on these lovely VHS covers. Some astonishing graphics, but we know exactly when and where they came from. If you’ve been in TV long enough, you’ve probably pushed crates of these around the Palais.

Our first taster is this Scotch VHS tape ad from 1984 looking in to the future of 2021. Do you think they got it right?

Happy New Year.

Binge Watching Can Continue!

Binge Watching Can Continue!

At Mindcorp, we’ve been creating posters on the current trending shows, like Cobra Kai, with a retro take on it.

We based our posters we were looking at for The Mandalorian. Designers and artists like Butcher Billy are creating campaigns around current Netflix binge series, giving them a retro look. It’s effective because the typography and graphics fits the era it would come out from. Billy has created a collection of retro movie posters, each reflecting an episode and quote from The Mandalorian, Season Two.

Mindcorp would like to wish you all a very merry and safe Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to speaking to you again in 2021!

This Is The New Way!

This Is The New Way!

Since October 30, the Season 2 of The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+ and is bringing fans together from across the galaxy to celebrate.

The mysterious warrior and the Child continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.

Throughout 2020 it has felt like we are all travelling a hard and arduous journey, trying to meander our way through this COVID-19 pandemic. We have all had to overcome obstacles, some of which being harder than others; but there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. Roll on 2021 and lets hope this is ‘the one’ that brings something we are not used to at the moment… normality!

To help with bringing back some normality Mindcorp would like to offer you a quick start with the offer of three free days design work. Get in touch and let us know what we can do for you.

May the Force be with you.

Improve Your Grades

Improve Your Grades

Just because you’ve had the budget to make it, doesn’t mean that the promo or the key art or the sizzle reel promoting it will really ‘sing’.

Sometimes….in fact most times actually, a promo or any campaign around a project needs an ‘enhanced package’ to make it really stand out. We understand that here at Mindcorp; we have done for over 25 years… and that’s why TV, film and post production campaigns are our main focus.

Take a look at a few recent pieces where we’ve applied some sample grading; promos or stills; they all get the Mindcorp treatment, but without the cost of an online or offline edit suite.

With grading starting at a few hundred pounds, it doesn’t break the budget. To find out more, get in touch and ask us to improve your grades.

The Queen Versus The Crown

The Queen Versus The Crown

An alcohol fueled drug addicted character, travelling the States to collect money is probably not how you would expect a chess player to be described. I’d like to introduce you to Beth Harmon.

The Queen’s Gambit does not disappoint when it comes to delivering binge worthy TV thats keeps you hooked from the first episode. Orphaned at a tender age, this series takes you through the ups and downs of Beth discovering and mastering the game of chess with a slightly different inbetween. The creativity within this series is there for all to see, from Beths flawless wardrobe to the tense scenes created through the fantastic way the show is shot.

This is a must watch for anyone and the best thing is you don’t even need to be interested in or understand how to play chess to enjoy it.

Beth opens her ‘creative’ side through drugs, Mindcorp like to get our creative juices going in a slightly more traditional way. Lets setup an online call and lets discuss what we can do for you. Whether you are looking to create a piece of keyart, or promote your new stand out show with brochures and other mixed media means or a digital campaign, we are here to help you. We are feeling so generous that we will offer the first three for FREE (but that’s just between us).

We’ve made our move, it’s now over to you to make yours. Your chess clock is ticking.

Game Set and Match

Game Set and Match

The GOAT is nowhere to be seen.

This week we are enjoying the ATP tour finals, the last event in the tennis calendar and the top 8 players from the season. It’s probably the most socially distanced of sports.

In a gladiatorial sport where the crowd play a vital part, some players have talked about playing behind closed doors. “Because the boxes and suites were all empty, I became aware of many of my fellow competitors occupying them in order to watch my match. It was quite disconcerting.”

We wanted to celebrate the quite magazine-like, exciting photographic/graphic of this round robin, best of 3 set format. Very different in design style to a grass court format like Wimbledon or the clay of Roland Garros.

We’ll be in the stands for the start of the 2021 season. Have a great weekend watching tennis, rugby, football…or the opening round of the downhill season.
