What’s in the briefcase? Not even Tarantino knew. Who cares? It’s a Macguffin?

Every story needs a starting point, a thing for our characters to want, a goal to pursue. These wants can be as varied as true love, fame and fortune, the identity of the mysterious killer, and on and on. In some stories, however, the thing the characters seek, is well…nothing at all.

Well, it exists, but its existence is, in the words of Alfred Hitchcock, “nonexistent.” If this sounds confusing, it’s because the thing we are seeking is the elusive MacGuffin, a term coined by the master of suspense and explained in the below video from Fandor.

The Internet Is Obsessed With This Starbucks

The Internet Is Obsessed With This Starbucks

Gone is the recognisable green Starbucks exterior in favour of a more rustic layout, which is in keeping with the historical ‘hood where it’s located, next to the banks of Dubai Creek.

Located in the oldest part of Dubai, Al Seef itself has been entirely renovated. A combination of old-meets-new in Dubai’s heritage district and this coffee shop is a perfect nod to the old school style.

The story of coffee in Arabia is rich with legend, intrigue, and romance.

Around 1000 A.D., Arabian traders first smuggled coffee from its birthplace in Ethiopia on the African continent across the Red Sea to Yemen on the south end of the Arabian Peninsula. Here the beans were first roasted and cultivated on plantations. They boiled the beans to create a drink they called qahwa.

Arabians began drinking coffee prepared like a bean broth by 1300, and coffeehouses appeared throughout the Arabian world starting in 1450.

Narcos did it, so did Das Boot

Narcos did it, so did Das Boot

I like the way in which dramas based upon real life events call upon found footage in order to validate the drama that unfolds.

It makes the piece much more compelling Nd titles in the 2020s are doing a huge job of heavy lifting in terms of how they take us there with the opening. As soon as the actual drama begins, we’ve already emotionally invested in what is to follow.
